Psychotherapy and Counselling

People sometimes ask if there is a difference between counselling and psychotherapy.
I see it like this:

Counselling tends to be a short-term process where you concentrate on resolving a specific difficulty.

Psychotherapy involves working at a deeper level and generally, though not always, for a longer time. In psychotherapy your aim is to make sense of issues from the past that are unresolved and are interfering with your present life.

My approach

When we first meet, we will discuss together the approach that will suit you best. I believe that everyone has an innate motivation towards health and growth. My intention as a therapist is to support you with empathy and compassion to discover what is preventing you from living life as you would wish.

The therapeutic relationship is unique and special. I will not tell you what to do but will provide a safe, professional and confidential space where you can reflect on what is happening in your life, gain awareness and understanding, and make appropriate choices and changes.

If you think you have issues that are interfering with your ability to live life as you wish, please do get in touch to see how I may be able to help you.
